Getting Ready.

5/26/08. It's been one year since we moved to Cape Cod from Las Vegas, and I am SO looking forward to moving back to Las Vegas in August. We (my son, his wife and four kids) moved here to get help for my oldest grandson, who is autistic. My daughter-in-law did all the research, made all the phone calls and all the agencies and mouthpieces assured her this was the best place for Logan (my grandson) and that they could and would help him. Wow, what a bunch of liars. In a nutshell, the Dennis-Yarmouth School District refused to spend the money to give Logan the help he needs and deserves. Letters to Congressman Delahunt and Senator O'Leary received immediate responses, but they were unable to help. A letter to Senator Kennedy's office was completely ignored - surprising considering his family is supposedly so gung-ho about helping the mentally handicapped, but considering they lobotomized Kennedy's sister and left her a vegetable because she was an embarrassment to the family, I'm not surprised neither he nor anyone in his office bothered to even acknowledge my letter.

So, we are getting out of this hell hole and back to sunny Las Vegas. I am a native of Massachusetts/southern New Hampshire, but when I leave New England in August, I will NEVER look back.

And funny thing about Cape Cod - their motto should be: "We welcome anyone with an alternative lifestyle, but PLEASE leave your handicapped "off-Cape" - they kind of freak us out." I would say a good (bad?) 50% of the people we encountered daily were not kind to my grandson, as evidenced by the disdainful way they looked at him for being vocal or daring to laugh out loud in their space. From managers in the local Stop & Shop in South Yarmouth to the old-timers shopping at B.J.'s warehouse, the dirty looks were unforgivable. It is just unbeleivable to me that in this day and age, people would dare to glare at us as if to say 'how dare you bring him out in public' - it was shocking to me. To be fair, we found the clerks and occasionally other shoppers at the stores to be kind and at least smile at Logan. But compared to Las Vegas, where he grew up, where people would smile at him and actually talk to him, there is no comparison.
